Meet the Supervisors and Coordinators on our ski program team! If you are an alpine instructor, these are your go-to folks for all your questions and concerns throughout the season.
My name is Bob Kane and I have been working at Smuggs since 2011. I currently supervise in the Adult Alpine program as well as getting out and teaching when possible. I am certified PSIA Alpine Level 3 as well as AASI Level 3. I love to make strong bond with the guest so we can make life long skiers and snowboards!
I began my Ski Instructor's career in 1978 at Ski Sundown, Ct, where I immediately realized that I had a passion for sharing what I love to do with guest and other instructors. I moved to NH / VT in 1980 and taught at Mt. Ascutney and Okemo. In 1968, I Achieved my Level II Cert (at that time was called Associate Cert). In 1983 moved to Jeffersonville and began my career here at Smuggs’. In 2000, I achieved my Level III Alpine. My passion and enthusiasm for skiing and teaching is what I try to relate to both guest and my peers. I love what I do and I hope that my attitude for the sport is contagious. Sharing what one learns from peers at all levels is a true joy. Love what you and do what you love
I grew up skiing in the foothills of Wisconsin. I was 12 when I tried skiing for the first time. My first ski lesson most certainly shaped my life. It was then that I knew I wanted to shape my life around the sport. I moved to VT in 2009 and began my teaching career as an instructor at Smuggs’. Teaching skiing here is a wonderful thing as the students eventually get to ski in so many great stashes, parks, and trails. I believe children gain a great deal of personal growth through their experience on snow.
I grew up in New Jersey learning to ski and snowboard at Mountain Creek resort. I have a passion for the outdoors and helping people learn to love them as much as I do. I majored in outdoor education and wilderness leadership at Johnson state. This is my 3rd year on the Smuggs’ staff and I'm excited for many more great seasons.
My name is Matt Gough and I grew up in Arlington Virginia, and learned how to ski with the boy scouts in West Virginia and Pennsylvania. As a freshman in high school my scout troop went on a trip to Killington and I knew I wanted to go to college somewhere I could ski. I went to UVM and earned a Bachelor’s degree in psychology and my first job after graduating was teaching skiing at Bolton Valley. My wife and I love to ride so we decided to see how we could make the most of seasonal lifestyles and decided to start a pasture based farm in Pleasant Valley, Vermont, right next to Smugglers Notch. I am in the snow-sports industry to help people from all walks of life experience the magic of winter and skiing and snowboarding.
Hi I'm Dave Bensel. This season I will be one of the children's alpine supervisor here at Smuggs’. I'm from Wellsville, PA. I have six years’ experience teaching and coaching skiing. I love ski racing and disc golf! To be able to pass that joy on to others is the greatest part of my job.
