Snowboard Progam Staff

Meet the Supervisors on our snowboard program team! If you are a snowboard instructor, these are your go-to folks for all your questions and concerns throughout the season.

Mike Chait: Snowboard Program Manager

I am a Chicago native, however I have been at Smuggs for 13 years in various roles. My resort background includes snowmaking, guiding hikes, lift maintenance, and snowboard instruction. I tackles a wide variety of tasks these days, including the organization of the Snowboard Program as well as managing some of Smuggs’ social media outlets. What do I love about Vermont? “Trees, amongst everything else.” Ask me what I like about Smugglers’ specifically? “Trees, amongst everything else.”

In my free time, I love exploring new zones on my splitboard, nighttime XC Ski outings, and doing the dishes. I have been married 6 years and now have a baby girl named Roxy Sue. Hit me up as a resource; I love to be helpful.

Ira Tillberg - Snowboard Program Supervisor

I've been working at SSU for the past three winters as a Discovery Supervisor and now working for the Snowboard program. I love Smuggs’ because of the great community. All the staff have such a passion for winter sports, and we want to share that with everyone on the mountain.

Joseph Crimni - Snowboard Program Supervisor

I bagged the NYC urban grind and moved out to Colorado 10 years ago, where I traded the high-stress corporate office for blue skies and fresh pow and started coaching snowboard with Adaptive Sports Durango, and Vail Ski and Snowboard School. I moved back East a few years ago to be closer to family, and gravitated to Vermont. After a few seasons next door at Stowe, and now the past two seasons, at Smuggs’. "What’s more fun than snowboarding?: Introducing others to the sport, seeing their excitement and pride of accomplishment and sharin' the love!”

John Paul Temple - Snowboard Program Supervisor

I started riding in the winter of '99/2000 right here at Smuggs. In 2012 I discovered the awesome power of snowboard instruction. Helping other people to enjoy snowboarding as much as I do is the most gratifying aspect of the job. I’ve also found that helping others to improve their own riding can awaken new things in my own riding. Being part of SSU will reinvigorate your love for the sport.
